H2O2 shouldn’t be used orally if you have amalgam fillings as it reacts and releases the mercury vapors!! I also have heard that the inside of a banana peel works to whiten (also GREAT for itchy insect bites) and activated charcoal…apply from capsule with a designated brush, leave on for a few minutes then rinse. It is said to stain sink, clothing, brush, but whitens teeth really well…just wear a black top!
Tooth-whitening strips will help get rid of tooth stains. These strips are very thin, virtually invisible, and are coated with a peroxide-based whitening gel. You wear them a few minutes daily for a week or more. Results are visible in just a few days, and last at least a year. The results with strips are not as dramatic as with whitening kits, but the strips are easy to use and pretty much foolproof.
Dr. Hulda Clarke has told us that oil dissolves metal. That would be the concern for me with holding oil in contact with amalgam fillings for extended periods of time, rather than supposing the oil creates a mercury vapour. I would be concerned at the potential amount of dissolved metals which might be absorbed by the oral mucosa during oil pulling, day after day. Until there is a study conducted on this matter or until my amalgam restorations are removed, I would rather follow a precautionary principle and avoid the oil pulling. – Maggie

With each decade that we age, our teeth can get up to one to two shades darker. The color pigments inside teeth become more prominent as the dentin structure below the enamel grows. Consider the enamel to be like translucent glass, with the dentin structure shining through underneath, giving us our tooth color. Genetics play a large role in the darkening of our teeth extrinsically and intrinsically, but environmental factors, oral hygiene, and nutrition also contribute to the shade of our teeth.
Further research I’ve done on this showed that activated charcoal can actually be helpful in changing the pH and health of the mouth, and as such is effective in avoiding cavities and killing the bad bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis. For this reason, I now suggest and use it as part of my remineralizing protocol for teeth, along with my remineralizing toothpaste.
First, I’m sorry if the article was confusing on this aspect of it. With this part of the article on activated charcoal, we were simply expressing our personal concerns about the potential risks of daily use of activated charcoal. You see, warnings exist against using activated charcoal internally daily because it can inhibit absorption of vitamins and minerals. So, from our perspective, the same warning could be applied to regular use in the mouth.
The only thing I don’t particularly care for with Tom’s is that they add XYLITOL to it, which is deadly to dogs if they somehow get hold of it. I just have to make sure our new cat doesn’t get stupid, steal the toothpaste off the bathroom counter and leave it where my dachshunds can find it! She hasn’t shown any homicidal tendencies yet, but with a cat, one never knows………. 😉
Chew a piece of gum. Studies show that chewing sugar-free gum that contains xylitol for 20 minutes a day following meals can help prevent tooth decay. Chewing gum increases saliva production which in turn washes away food debris, neutralizes acids produced by bacteria, strengthens tooth enamel, and provides disease-fighting substances throughout the mouth.
I called many American Companies like mountain rose herbs , redmond clay ,aztec clay and when I asked them about lead in their clay they said that every clay comes from the earth and that is why there is tiny amount lead in the clay, but it occurs naturally so it is bind with other elements in the clay and does not leak in the human body , so the human body can not absorb the naturally occuring lead in clay.
I have deep sockets and my dentist told me every 3 months I need to rinse with peroxide to get food out so my gums wouldn’t hurt. I started doing this and at my next visit my dentist asked me what I was using to whiten my teeth and I told her nothing because I didn’t think I was. After my next 6 month visit I told her what I was doing as far as using the peroxide as she told me to and she said thats why your teeth are so white. So Proxide whiten your teeth.
Eat more crunchy fruits and vegetables. A big part of keeping your teeth clean involves eating the right foods. Naturally crunchy foods contain fiber, which helps increase saliva production in your mouth, removing many of the sugars and chemicals that can cause tooth decay. About 20 minutes after you eat something, your saliva begins to reduce the effects of the acids and enzymes attacking your teeth. Additionally, saliva contains traces of calcium and phosphate, which can also restore minerals to areas of teeth that have lost them from the bacterial acids.
Avoiding smoking cigarettes, drinking too much coffee and/or soda, improving your oral hygiene overall, and eating a healthy diet can all also help prevent yellow teeth. If you do regularly drink staining beverages, do so through a straw and try to cut back. Try to drink more plain water after eating or drinking something staining or acidic to help reduce the negative effects.
