Hold the floss tightly against the tooth. Gently rub the side of the tooth, moving the floss away from the gum with up and down motions. Repeat this method on the rest of your teeth. Don’t forget the back side of your last tooth. Once you’re finished, throw the floss away. A used piece of floss won’t be as effective and can reintroduce bacteria into your mouth.

If you have only minimal staining, whitening toothpaste is clearly the easiest way to whiten your teeth at home. Brushing two to three times a day can whiten your teeth four to five shades after about a month of consistent use. Formulas for tooth whitening toothpaste are all about equivalent in effect, but kids under 16 should not use them. They can cause irritation to the gums and teeth of younger kids.
You can also whiten your teeth at home with gels that are placed in mouth guards and worn at night. This is often the same procedure a dentist uses to whiten your teeth, but the peroxide level is weaker in over the counter kits. Further, mouth guards are custom made for people at the dentist. Finding a mouth guard that fits properly may be problematic with over the counter sets.
I took tetracycline in the 70’s and ended up with a permanent yellowish color to my teeth. Lately I have been brushing my teeth with tooth gel (not toothpaste) and a dipping of the toothbrush in a little hydrogen peroxide at the same time. At first I thought nothing was happening, but after several weeks, I finally looked at my teeth and they were white! I was really surprised. Hopefully they will continue to become whiter. And, now I know you have to be patient!!! I plan to add baking soda, too. BTW, for some reason, toothpaste makes the inside of my mouth slough off, the same as another person mentioned above. So I have to brush with “tooth gel”, which is getting harder and harder to find.

Dietary supplements are also available at most pharmacies for people with low vitamin D. Children under 12 months of age need at least 400 IU of vitamin D. Children over 1 year and most adults need at least 600 IU, including pregnant and breastfeeding women. People above the age of 70 may need up to 800 IU of vitamin D. Ask your doctor before giving vitamin D supplements to an infant or child.
Is it crucial to oil pull for the full 15-20 minutes and EVERY day or would every other or less time daily be effective??? I have a hard time seeing how to add 20 minutes to my day, so I have yet to give this one a try. I did try the turmeric and the charcoal on my teeth (at different times) but found not much improvement, but a large mess! Thanks for your info!
I recently saw some beautiful wedding pictures where the bride had bright white teeth. I asked if she had them professionally whitened and the mother of the bride said that she used coconut oil. I was thrilled because i had purchased some coconut oil from the Organic Marketplace in our town and plan to use it for better dental care and oral health.

Dip your toothbrush into a sea salt mixture. Instead of using toothpaste, dip your toothbrush into a sea salt mixture for 3–5 minutes, made by dissolving ½ teaspoon of salt in 1 fluid ounce of water, and brush your teeth with it. The salt temporarily increases the pH balance of your mouth, turning it into an alkaline environment in which germs and bacteria cannot survive.
Activated charcoal, even though it is black, can actually help whiten teeth naturally. It seems counterintuitive, but charcoal is known for its ability to pull toxins out of things. Stains on your teeth are no different. Dip your toothbrush into activated charcoal powder, brush on your teeth, and leave for a few minutes. Rinse well and follow with your regular toothpaste. (Find activated charcoal powder here.)

Over-the-counter tray and gels have been around the longest. Known as a “boil and bite” system, they require you to heat a tray, fill it with gel, and place the formed tray in your mouth. This whitening method takes weeks to deliver results, and 80 percent of users report sensitivity due to the breakdown of the carbamide peroxide gel. While the tray helps prevent oxygen from escaping, there are other options that can lead to efficacious whitening without the soft tissue irritation and pain.

The key to using ACV for teeth whitening is to be consistent, using it for at least a month continuously in order to see the best results. However, be careful, as with all acids it can remove the enamel on your teeth if you brush too hard or use too much. After brushing with ACV, you need to brush again with regular toothpaste, preferably a non-fluoride paste, or rinse your mouth out well.
