4. Baking Soda: Baking soda is widely known for its uses for household cleaning and whitening. Baking soda is among the easiest and most efficient ways to naturally whiten teeth. Baking soda is slightly abrasive and helps remove stains on teeth. Simply just brush teeth with baking soda mixed with a little water to create a paste. Or you can use a mixture of baking soda and coconut oil. This is also a great homemade toothpaste. I use baking soda and coconut oil to brush my teeth every day.

You can also try a few home remedies to whiten your teeth, though not all dentists recommend them. Brushing the teeth with baking soda can produce slightly lighter shades. You can also brush with no greater than 10% strength hydrogen peroxide. For drug store methods, gel kits are thought most effective, and brush on teeth whitener the least. However, with minimal tooth yellowing, over the counter remedies are less expensive than dental whitening, and may provide you with the lighter shade you desire.

Paint-ons appeared on the scene around the same time as whitening pens and brushes, with success rates varying by formulation. Both user-friendly and convenient, a sealed delivery system is required to avoid harmful byproducts of carbamide peroxide breakdowns. The good news is paint-ons can be targeted to the teeth, thereby avoiding contact with the soft tissue which often results in sensitivity and irritation. It’s best to look for a gel that does not migrate from the tooth. However, because this method does not involve a closed system, there’s no way to prevent whitening oxygens from escaping, which means you can expect to see results in a couple of months. This whitening method also requires patience and the commitment to use for consecutive days. It’s a good option if you have two months to whiten.
i usually go to the dentist to whiten my teeth, every 2 months. But does anyone know if these great ideas actually work? because that would be so wonderful if they do. i was reading this other article the other day and it said for the lemon and baking soda to not keep it on for over 30 seconds. I was just wondering if anyone tried them and had some feedback.
Malic acid in apples boosts saliva to wash away acids. Toothpastes with bromelain, a compound in pineapple, help whiten teeth. But there's no evidence that eating these fruits will make your grin gleam. Skip the strawberries, too. A study in Operative Dentistry found that brushing with a mixture of them and baking soda had no whitening effects. Even worse, the citric acid in strawberries can break down enamel, the outer shell of your tooth.
Whitening strips revolutionized the industry 10 years ago, as researchers figured out how to impregnate hydrogen peroxide on a polyethylene strip that the user places directly on the teeth. This product has existed in several iterations over the years. The various types of strips have differed in terms of the level of hydrogen peroxide in the gel to modifications in the shape and thicknesses of the strip. The efficacy is excellent for an OTC product, but you must be cautious not to burn your fingers or rest the strip on the gums, as this will cause irritation over time. If you are patient and compliant, you’ll see results in a few weeks. This method is best if you have two weeks to whiten.

First of all, one of the reasons why you are looking at how to whiten teeth naturally fast at home is probably because you already know that professional teeth whitening is nor cheap, neither is healthy. Professional teeth whitening can leave your teeth very sensitive and weak. So, since it is possible, you should try and whiten your teeth naturally at home.

This really is the best kept secret of how to whiten teeth naturally fast at home. Coconut oil was used as a toothpaste in India. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which combats the bacteria responsible for teeth yellowing, while also keeping the breath fresh. You can use it as often as you like, as coconut oil does not bleach, it gets rid of the bacteria responsible for yellow teeth. It is an amazing home remedy for teeth whitening for sensitive teeth. It also tastes good, and is cheap. Here is how to whiten teeth with coconut oil:
Now, berries do contain many beneficial antioxidants and other compounds that can benefit the health of your teeth, but their role in dental health is likely tied to the benefits of an overall healthy diet for your teeth. Foods that can help keep your gums and teeth strong, plus free from diseases or signs of aging, include teeth-strengthening foods like: (7)
However, it might help to know that you can do lots of other activities while oil pulling. For example, I’m sitting here answering your questions on my computer and I could be oil pulling. Sometimes I oil pull while taking a shower. So, there’s no reason to not ‘double up’ and oil pull while doing other routine activities like surfing the net, watching a movie, reading, etc. In fact, sometimes I find that I oil pull for longer than 15-20 min because of the other activity.
H2O2 shouldn’t be used orally if you have amalgam fillings as it reacts and releases the mercury vapors!! I also have heard that the inside of a banana peel works to whiten (also GREAT for itchy insect bites) and activated charcoal…apply from capsule with a designated brush, leave on for a few minutes then rinse. It is said to stain sink, clothing, brush, but whitens teeth really well…just wear a black top!
Teeth whitening strips may be more appropriate for the person who has more yellow teeth. These are plastic strips coated on one side with hydrogen peroxide. They can be used nightly for two to four weeks depending upon the degree to which you want to produce a lighter shade. They still are not as effective as dental whitening, but they can create lighter teeth. Most four-week kits cost between 20-40 USD. The strips don’t necessarily adhere completely to the teeth, and there may be more whitening in front than in the back of each tooth.
Baking Soda isn’t a shocker here. Sodium bicarbonate (its official name) is mildly abrasive; gently scrubbing away surface stains to return teeth to a whiter shade. It’s also very alkaline (the opposite of acidic) so I would think if you have a very acidic mouth or eat a lot of acidic food, it could help balance out the Ph, which would be useful as acid breaks down enamel-this is strictly speculation on my part. It will also reduce the acidity of the lemon juice, which acts as a natural bleach of sorts. I use a mixture of baking soda and water on some days, and use the lemon juice on others, as I don’t want to overdo it.
Make a solution of 1 part ACV and 2 parts water. Swish this around in your mouth for 2-3 minutes, then spit it out. Rinse and brush as usual. ACV has strong fruit acids which can help whiten teeth, but only use this once a week. If you make your own apple cider vinegar, you may want to dilute it even more, like 1:10, since homemade ACV is usually very strong.
Xylitol from birch is the best. Shelly, the role of xylitol in reversing tooth decay is that it helps correct the ph in your mouth. This is most important for anyone who has any metal fillings, retainers or other dental work. I’ve healed a cavity naturally by using xylitol as a part of my oral health routine. It is not a cure all, and xylitol from corn is not the same as xylitol from birch bark. With any metal work in your mouth, you are almost ensuring you will need more dental work, unless you work very hard to keep the ph of your mouth correct.
Terri, it really is 10 to 15 minutes. During that time, your mouth will get fuller and fuller as more of your natural saliva is generated and added to the oil already in your mouth – by the end of the oil pulling session, you will have twice as much in your mouth as the tablespoon you start with, and this can be hard at first. I had to work up to that tablespoon to be able to keep it in my mouth for 10 minutes; I started with about a half tablespoon.

I have used all of these methods to naturally whiten teeth at one time or another and have found that since most of these are included in my diet or what I use for oral hygiene,  my teeth have remained pretty white and I haven’t had to spend extra trying to whiten them. These ways to naturally whiten teeth can be used daily or weekly to keep your teeth nice and white.
To figure out how to whiten our teeth, we have to know why they get yellow in the first place. There are several factors that play a part, including genetics, what kind of food and drink you consume, and how well you practice oral hygiene. A tooth is made up of 4 tissues-enamel, which is the strong white covering that protects the tooth, dentin, which supports the enamel and is a hard yellow material that carries nerves, pulp, which is at the center of the tooth and contains blood and lymph vessels, and cementum, which covers the root of the tooth.
Vicky / Lisa. I am coming in a little late here but you should not experience any staining on veneers assuming they are porcelain. This is a glass like material and does not have the porous finish of tooth enamel (which also does not stain). I totally understand your reluctance though. Charcoal (activated only) can still absorb any form of discolouration and other bio-film from veneers.
As one dentist reporting for the Dentistry IQ website puts it, “It is a misnomer that whiter teeth are the same as healthy teeth, since tooth color has very little to do with the health of the tooth. The consumer perception, though, is that white teeth equal a healthy mouth, and perception is reality.” (1) Here’s the good news: Below I explain several home remedies that help naturally whiten your teeth, while also improving overall oral hygiene. The kind of toothpaste you use plus regular brushing and flossing, using baking soda , coconut oil pulling, and tooth-healthy diet can all whiten your teeth naturally — in addition to offering benefits like antibacterial and antiseptic protection.
