Get more exposure to sunlight. Your body naturally makes vitamin D when exposed to sunlight. People with light skin should try to get at least 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight, while people with dark skin should get at least 30 minutes of sunlight exposure daily. Clouds, smog, clothing, sunscreen and window glass all reduce the amount of sunlight that actually reaches the skin.

We are told that conventional teeth whitening (bleaching) is safe from experts. Yet others warn of the risks of conventional teeth whitening. Much of the confusion stems from the fact that the ‘facts’ around teeth whitening have been blurred intentionally. Then we hear how Julia Roberts only uses baking soda to keep her smile bright. But is baking soda even a safe option?
4. Baking Soda: Baking soda is widely known for its uses for household cleaning and whitening. Baking soda is among the easiest and most efficient ways to naturally whiten teeth. Baking soda is slightly abrasive and helps remove stains on teeth. Simply just brush teeth with baking soda mixed with a little water to create a paste. Or you can use a mixture of baking soda and coconut oil. This is also a great homemade toothpaste. I use baking soda and coconut oil to brush my teeth every day.
Whitening toothpastes usually contain mild abrasives that are typically mineral compounds such as magnesium carbonate, hydrated aluminum oxides and calcium carbonate. These help remove surface stains that cause yellowing and help you to achieve a brighter tooth surface. Whitening toothpastes also often contain a small percentage of hydrogen peroxide, a bleaching agent that helps remove stains.
I took tetracycline in the 70’s and ended up with a permanent yellowish color to my teeth. Lately I have been brushing my teeth with tooth gel (not toothpaste) and a dipping of the toothbrush in a little hydrogen peroxide at the same time. At first I thought nothing was happening, but after several weeks, I finally looked at my teeth and they were white! I was really surprised. Hopefully they will continue to become whiter. And, now I know you have to be patient!!! I plan to add baking soda, too. BTW, for some reason, toothpaste makes the inside of my mouth slough off, the same as another person mentioned above. So I have to brush with “tooth gel”, which is getting harder and harder to find.
Whitening strips revolutionized the industry 10 years ago, as researchers figured out how to impregnate hydrogen peroxide on a polyethylene strip that the user places directly on the teeth. This product has existed in several iterations over the years. The various types of strips have differed in terms of the level of hydrogen peroxide in the gel to modifications in the shape and thicknesses of the strip. The efficacy is excellent for an OTC product, but you must be cautious not to burn your fingers or rest the strip on the gums, as this will cause irritation over time. If you are patient and compliant, you’ll see results in a few weeks. This method is best if you have two weeks to whiten.

Dip your toothbrush into a sea salt mixture. Instead of using toothpaste, dip your toothbrush into a sea salt mixture for 3–5 minutes, made by dissolving ½ teaspoon of salt in 1 fluid ounce of water, and brush your teeth with it. The salt temporarily increases the pH balance of your mouth, turning it into an alkaline environment in which germs and bacteria cannot survive.
Have your pearly whites lost their luster because of dingy gray or yellow stains? Stained teeth can occur as we age, but some common foods, drinks, and even mouthwashes can stain teeth. Do-it-yourself remedies can help whiten teeth, and avoiding substances that stain teeth can stop further discoloration. Use these secrets to whiter teeth to restore your bright smile.
The baking soda works on the enamel of the teeth to lift away the staining while the citric acid in the lemon juice provides a natural bleaching action. You can make a baking soda paste by adding some water to it, and use on your toothbrush, or you can blend the baking soda with your toothpaste. Step1 Mix baking soda and the juice from a fresh squeezed lime, you want to use enough lime juice to bring the baking soda to the consistency of a paste. You can use baking soda, instead of salt, to make it more effective. Different theories exist on the benefits of adding lemon juice or strawberries to baking soda for teeth whitening. All you have to do is take a little of baking soda and make a paste by mixing it with some water and a dash of salt.
Something that I’ve been using that really helps give me that alert, natural energy is maca powder. It’s a root powder that has been used forever. You can buy just the powder (it sort of tastes like butterscotch, but it’s not sweet) or buy it in capsules. The capsules are easier, but if you can regularly drink the powder, it seems a bit more effective.
However, lemon juice is acidic. If we were in your shoes, we would not use lemon juice for brushing our teeth, because the acidity may weaken your enamel and increase your chances of damaging it as you brush. We explain more on acidity in our articles “How to Drink Kombucha and NOT Destroy Your Teeth“, “Can Brushing After a Meal Damage My Teeth?“, and “Tracking Your Saliva pH“.
Hello people! If you want to whiten your teeth in a fast way, just use baking soda+lemon. Mix it up, put it on your teeth and after 2 minutes you will have whiter teeth (If your teeth is not completely yellow). I had discolorated teeth. When I was young I used to put peroxide on my teeth and it had some effect: after about 1week I had nice white teeth, but the problem was, that my teeth were so weak, that one of them had broke. I went to the dentist and had my tooth repaired. After 3 months I went and did the laser-whitening. It was painful, but the results were awesome! Now, after 4 years I’m using some home-made methods that keep my teeth healthy and white. I discovered that even eating apples can whiten my teeth a bit. Thank you for stopping by to offer your input to this conversation. Thank goodness we all don’t want the same thing, right? I suppose I’m much more cautious and dubious of the dental profession than you express here. Given that the dental profession still sings the praises of fluoride and mercury amalgam fillings despite tremendous research proving their dangers, I’m frankly not sure the reasoning you pose here is sound (from my humble, yet very opinionated opinion).
