It makes sense that apple cider vinegar (ACV), which effectively works as a natural antibiotic and teeth/gum cleanser, would also be able to remove stubborn stains on the teeth. ACV is especially helpful for removing stains due to common culprits like coffee and nicotine (smoking). Some report that after using ACV it looks like you just got your teeth professionally cleaned!
One simple strategy can help maintain white teeth: brush. Brush at least twice daily. Even better, brush after every meal and snack. One of the reasons we brush our teeth is to increase the saliva in our mouths to provide our teeth the necessary remineralization that occurs from contact with lots of saliva. However, if we brush with activated charcoal on a daily basis, our concern is the charcoal’s binding ability will tie up the minerals necessary and inhibit this important remineralizing action of saliva.
You can safely use fluoridated water to prepare infant formula. However, prolonged exposure and intake of fluoride during infancy may cause mild fluorosis, which actually weakens enamel. Fluorosis only occurs with baby teeth but it can also affect the development of permanent teeth and lead to white spots on teeth, so consider ways to minimize your baby’s exposure to fluorosis until they begin to grow permanent teeth such as using distilled, demineralized or purified water and giving your child calcium-rich foods and beverages. Since fluoride isn’t an essential mineral for the body, you do not need to worry about any deficiency.
Dr. Hulda Clarke has told us that oil dissolves metal. That would be the concern for me with holding oil in contact with amalgam fillings for extended periods of time, rather than supposing the oil creates a mercury vapour. I would be concerned at the potential amount of dissolved metals which might be absorbed by the oral mucosa during oil pulling, day after day. Further research I’ve done on this showed that activated charcoal can actually be helpful in changing the pH and health of the mouth, and as such is effective in avoiding cavities and killing the bad bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis. For this reason, I now suggest and use it as part of my remineralizing protocol for teeth, along with my remineralizing toothpaste.
As oil pulling doesn’t involve any of these methods of increasing the stimulation of the amalgam, I see no reason to avoid oil pulling with amalgam fillings. To add to that, even if oil pulling stimulated the mercury to liberate, the fact is you are oil pulling to capture toxins and remove them from the body. Now, I realize that I’m assuming that oil in the mouth would help tie up any ‘extra’ mercury liberated and I don’t know if this is true. But it seems reasonable to me to think that IF more mercury is liberated from oil pulling that the oil/process itself would help bind the vapor and you’d spit it out.

Thanks to Wellness Mama I’ve added both charcoal and oil pulling to my routine. Both do a great job of cleaning and whitening my teeth. After soaking my teeth in charcoal for 5 minutes, I spit but do not rinse. Then I pop coconut oil in my mouth and swish for 20 minutes. This way I’m oil pulling with an oil/charcoal mix which has extra cleaning and whitening power. As a bonus the oil does a fantastic job of cleaning the black off my teeth.

Get more exposure to sunlight. Your body naturally makes vitamin D when exposed to sunlight. People with light skin should try to get at least 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight, while people with dark skin should get at least 30 minutes of sunlight exposure daily. One thing to be aware of when it comes to whitening teeth is that certain natural whiteners can eradicate enamel. Some teeth whiteners are just not a good idea to use, especially lemon juice.
